From Cricket to Quidditch, England and Australia manage to make some sort of competition out of everything, and the current resurgence of bass-lead, funk infected hit records known as ‘Garage House’ has been lead by the poms of late, and for good reason. It’s now our pleasure to introduce you to their next sensation, Wookie.
His debut release ‘Battle’ and his underground sensation ‘Scrappy’ hooked the UK club scene by the ears, and after proving his talents remixing Sia, Justin Timberlake, Rizzle Kicks, Roll Deep and Ray Foxx, Wookie was being name checked by the likes of Rudimental and Disclosure as a leader of the Garage movement.
Enter his new release ‘The Hype 2.0‘. Featuring the soulful vocals of Eliza Doolittle (who you may remember from her small collab with Disclosure on their chart ambushing hit ‘You and Me‘) ‘The Hype’ is an infectious contemporary house winner that even the most competitive Aussie will nod his head to.
Here at Neon, we’re not fans of this bitter competition between countries, we prefer to embrace the English and their ‘Garageness’ and put our own patriotic spin on it. This is where remix Team 2.0 steps in. Motez kicks off the party, fresh from his Stoney Roads producer of the year award, the Sweat It Out stalwart puts his trademark deep twist stamp all over it. Next up is the freshest kid in town Young Franco, who adds vibes for days with his Tropicana infused house banger.
Brisbane producer CLN steps up with what we feel is a breakthrough remix, his distinctive dark yet eloquent electronica takes you on a journey that will find you looking for the repeat button. Sydney three piece ISLND add their energy infused deepness, resulting in a growing number and an almighty piano jam.
Sweetland are next to the table with a clubbier take on things that would sit well anywhere at 3am, whilst current killers Set Mo finish things off, soundtracking the best cab ride home you’ll ever have with their drivey house rendition.
The Hype 2.0 is more than a standard Garage release, its not even a deluxe double door remote controlled garage. This is a fully fledged Bat Cave with Alfred pouring a pina colada ready for your enjoyment.
Released on Neon Oct 13 via Beatport.
